995 x 640 mm large-scale physical map of the Western Cape, extending north as far as Groen River mouth on the Atlantic, West as far as Plettenberg Bay, and North-west as far as Richmond. The railway lines have reached Sir Lowry’s Pass (Feb 1890) but there is no sign of the line beyond Ashton, which work commenced 1894. Scale 12,62 miles to the inch. Also has a scale of Cape Roods.. 1. Browned, but quite good and laid down on linen backing, in worn softcover. none ca 1890-1894. #847

A fine volume of early South Africa cartography, including maps by Barrow, Brink, Cloete, Hop’s Expedition, Leysten and Lichtenstein, dealing with the West Coast and Namaqualand, among others.. 41 pp text with 10 folding maps in colour, 10 comparative superimposed maps, and one large, folding general map of the Cape Colony by Governor C J van der Graaff.. 970 x 730 mm Large forling map in full colour, which includes numerous insets, such as Rhodesia, Witwatersrand, Africa, Cape Peninsula, South Eastern England(?) and street plans of Cape Town, Pietermaritzburg,Durban, Kimberley, Pretoria and Port Elizabeth – though Johannesburg is just included in the general Witwatersrand inset.. 1. Beautiful full-colour topographical map of the western half of the Cape west of Knysna, extending to the Orange River in the north, but excluding part of the Richtersveld. Boer War map of the region from east of Pella towards Kenhardt; 3,94 miles to the inch, size 610 x 470 mm folding in softcover. One of the early editions of this map, as it is not yet dated, and a large southern stretch is marked as ‘unsurveyed’. 1. Liquid-stained in parts, with a number of marginal tears which have been amateurishly repaired, covers worn and faded. Field Intelligence Department ca 1900. #493

Standard issue Boer War map 620 x 500 mm, scale 1inch: 6945 yds, one of a grid covering the Cedarberg and Hantam. The map was probably compiled in a hurry towards the end of the war, since all names are still handprinted and there is no title or printers’ information in the bottom margin..
